20:5	Some people keep silent and are thought to be wise, while others are detested for being talkative.	Mancher schweigt und gilt als weise, mancher wird trotz vielen Redens verachtet.	C'è chi tace ed è ritenuto saggio, e c'è chi è odiato per la sua loquacità. 20:6	Some people keep silent because they have nothing to say, while others keep silent because they know when to speak.	Mancher schweigt, weil er keine Antwort weiß, mancher schweigt, weil er die rechte Zeit beachtet.	C'è chi tace, perché non sa che cosa rispondere, e c'è chi tace, perché conosce il momento propizio. 20:7	The wise remain silent until the right moment, but a boasting fool misses the right moment.	Der Weise schweigt bis zur rechten Zeit, der Tor aber achtet nicht auf die rechte Zeit. 20:8	Whoever talks too much is detested, and whoever pretends to authority is hated.	Wer viele Worte macht, wird zum Ekel, der Anmaßende wird gehasst. 20:9	There may be good fortune for a person in adversity, and a windfall may result in a loss.	Mancher Erfolg wird dem Menschen zum Schaden, mancher Gewinn wird zum Verlust. 20:10	There is the gift that profits you nothing, and the gift to be paid back double.	Es gibt Geschenke, von denen man nichts hat, es gibt Geschenke, die man doppelt vergüten muss. 20:11	There are losses for the sake of glory, and there are some who have raised their heads from humble circumstances. 20:12	Some buy much for little, but pay for it seven times over.	Mancher kauft vieles billig ein und muss es doch siebenfach bezahlen. 20:13	The wise make themselves beloved by only few words, but the courtesies of fools are wasted.	Wer klug zu reden weiß, macht sich beliebt, die Liebenswürdigkeit der Toren ist umsonst. 20:15	He gives little and upbraids much; he opens his mouth like a town crier. Today he lends and tomorrow he asks it back; such a one is hateful to God and humans.	Er gibt wenig und schimpft viel, er reißt den Mund auf wie ein Ausrufer. Heute leiht er, morgen fordert er zurück; solch ein Mensch ist verhasst. 20:16	The fool says, I have no friends, and I get no thanks for my good deeds. Those who eat my bread are evil-tongued.	Der Tor sagt: Ich habe keinen Freund, meine Wohltaten finden keinen Dank.	Lo stolto dice: «Non ho un amico, non c'è gratitudine per i miei benefici.	Chitsiru chimati, “Ine ndilibe bwenzi. Palibe amene amathokoza ntchito zanga zabwino. 20:17	How many will ridicule him, and how often!	Alle, die sein Brot essen, haben böse Zungen: Wie oft und wie viel verlachen sie ihn!	Quelli che mangiano il mio pane sono lingue cattive». 20:18	A slip on the pavement is better than a slip of the tongue; the downfall of the wicked will occur just as speedily. 20:19	A coarse person is like an inappropriate story, continually on the lips of the ignorant.	Ein Wort zur Unzeit ist ein Braten ohne Salz, im Mund des Ungebildeten findet es sich dauernd.	Un uomo senza grazia è un discorso inopportuno: è sempre sulla bocca dei maleducati. 20:20	A proverb from a fool's lips will be rejected, for he does not tell it at the proper time.	Ein Sinnspruch aus dem Mund des Toren wird verachtet, denn er spricht ihn nicht zur rechten Zeit.	Non si accetta una massima dalla bocca dello stolto, perché non è mai detta a proposito. 20:21	One may be prevented from sinning by poverty; so when he rests he feels no remorse.	Mancher sündigt nicht, obwohl er arm ist; er lässt sich in seiner Ruhe nicht stören.	C'è chi è impedito di peccare dalla miseria e durante il riposo non avrà rimorsi. 20:22	One may lose his life through shame, or lose it because of human respect.	Mancher richtet aus Scham sich selbst zugrunde; weil er (seine Not) verbirgt, geht er unter.	C'è chi si rovina per rispetto umano e si rovina per la faccia di uno stolto. 20:23	Another out of shame makes promises to a friend, and so makes an enemy for nothing.	Mancher gibt aus Scham dem Freund Versprechen und macht ihn sich ohne Grund zum Feind.	C'è chi per rispetto umano fa promesse a un amico; in tal modo se lo rende gratuitamente nemico. 20:24	A lie is an ugly blot on a person; it is continually on the lips of the ignorant.	Ein schlimmer Schandfleck am Menschen ist die Lüge; im Mund des Ungebildeten findet sie sich dauernd.	Brutta macchia nell'uomo la menzogna, si trova sempre sulla bocca degli ignoranti. 20:25	A thief is preferable to a habitual liar, but the lot of both is ruin.	Besser ein Dieb als einer, der immer nur lügt; beide aber werden zugrunde gehen.	Meglio un ladro che un mentitore abituale, ma tutti e due condivideranno la rovina. 20:26	A liar's way leads to disgrace, and his shame is ever with him.	Das Ende des Lügners ist Schmach, immerfort haftet seine Schande an ihm. 20:27	The wise person advances himself by his words, and one who is sensible pleases the great.	Wer weise ist im Reden, kommt voran, ein kluger Mann ist bei den Machthabern beliebt. 20:28	Those who cultivate the soil heap up their harvest, and those who please the great atone for injustice.	Wer das Land bebaut, schichtet hohe Garbenstöße auf; wer den Machthabern gefällt, kann manches Unrecht gutmachen.	Chi lavora la terra accrescerà il raccolto; chi piace ai grandi si fa perdonare l'ingiustizia. 20:29	Favors and gifts blind the eyes of the wise; like a muzzle on the mouth they stop reproofs.	Geschenke und Gaben blenden die Augen der Weisen, wie ein Zügel im Maul lenken sie Vorwürfe ab.	Regali e doni accecano gli occhi dei saggi, come bavaglio sulla bocca, soffocano i rimproveri. 20:30	Hidden wisdom and unseen treasure, of what value is either?	Verborgene Weisheit und versteckter Schatz: was nützen sie beide? 20:31	Better are those who hide their folly than those who hide their wisdom.	Besser einer, der seine Torheit verbirgt, als einer, der seine Weisheit verbirgt.
