17:1	Great are your judgments and hard to describe; therefore uninstructed souls have gone astray.	Groß und nicht zu ergründen sind deine Entscheide; darum verfiel in Irrtum, wer sich nicht belehren ließ.	I tuoi giudizi sono grandi e difficili da spiegare, per questo le anime grossolane furono tratte in errore.	ان احكامك عظيمة لا يعبر عنها ولذلك ضلت النفوس التي لا تاديب لها
17:2	For when lawless people supposed that they held the holy nation in their power, they themselves lay as captives of darkness and prisoners of long night, shut in under their roofs, exiles from eternal providence.	Denn die Frevler meinten, das heilige Volk knechten zu können; und jetzt lagen sie da, Gefangene der Finsternis, Gefesselte einer langen Nacht, eingeschlossen in den Häusern, von der ewigen Vorsehung verbannt.	Gli iniqui credendo di dominare il popolo santo, incatenati nelle tenebre e prigionieri di una lunga notte, chiusi nelle case, giacevano esclusi dalla provvidenza eterna.	فانه لما توهم المجرمون انهم يتسلطون على الامة القديسة اذا هم ملقون في اسر الظلمة وقيود الليل الطويل محبوسون تحت سقوفهم منفيون عن العناية الابدية
17:3	For thinking that in their secret sins they were unobserved behind a dark curtain of forgetfulness, they were scattered, terribly alarmed, and appalled by specters.	Sie glaubten, mit ihren geheimen Sünden unter der dunklen Decke der Vergessenheit verborgen zu sein; da packte sie furchtbares Entsetzen. Sie wurden durch Trugbilder aufgeschreckt und auseinander gejagt.	Credendo di restar nascosti con i loro peccati segreti, sotto il velo opaco dell'oblio, furono dispersi, colpiti da spavento terribile e tutti agitati da fantasmi.	و اذ حسبوا انهم مستترون في خطاياهم الخفية فرق بينهم ستر النسيان المظلم وهم في رعب شديد تقلقهم الاخيلة
17:4	For not even the inner chamber that held them protected them from fear, but terrifying sounds rang out around them, and dismal phantoms with gloomy faces appeared.	Auch der geheimste Winkel, in den sie sich flüchteten, konnte sie nicht vor Furcht bewahren; Schrecken erregendes Getöse umbrauste sie, und düstere Gespenster mit finsteren Mienen tauchten auf.	Neppure il nascondiglio in cui si trovavano li preservò dal timore, ma suoni spaventosi rimbombavano intorno a loro, fantasmi lugubri dai volti tristi apparivano.	و لم تكن الاكنة التي لبثوا فيها لتقيهم من الذعر فقد كانت اصوات قاصفة تدوي من حولهم واشباح مكفهرة تتراى امام وجوههم الكاسفة
17:5	And no power of fire was able to give light, nor did the brilliant flames of the stars avail to illumine that hateful night.	Keine Kraft irgendeines Feuers war stark genug, Licht zu bringen; nicht einmal der strahlende Glanz der Gestirne vermochte es, diese entsetzliche Nacht zu erhellen.	Nessun fuoco, per quanto intenso riusciva a far luce, neppure le luci splendenti degli astri riuscivano a rischiarare quella cupa notte.	و لم يكن في قوة النار مهما اشتدت ان تاتي بضياء ولا في بريق النجوم ان ينير ذلك الليل المدلهم
17:6	Nothing was shining through to them except a dreadful, self-kindled fire, and in terror they deemed the things that they saw to be worse than that unseen appearance.	Nur einen schaurigen Feuerherd, der sich von selbst entzündet hatte, sahen sie aufglühen; verschwand die Erscheinung, so hielten sie, außer sich vor Entsetzen, die Dinge, die sie sahen, für noch schlimmer.	Appariva loro solo una massa di fuoco, improvvisa, spaventosa; atterriti da quella fugace visione, credevano ancora peggiori le cose viste.	و انما كانت تلمع لهم بغتة نيران مخيفة فيرتعدون من ذلك المنظر المبهم ويتوهمون ما يظهر لهم اهول مما هو
17:7	The delusions of their magic art lay humbled, and their boasted wisdom was scornfully rebuked.	Da versagten die Gaukeleien der Zauberkunst und die Probe auf das prahlerische Wissen fiel schmählich aus.	Fallivano i ritrovati della magia, e la loro baldanzosa pretesa di sapienza.	حينئذ بطلت صناعة السحر وشعوذته وبرز على افتخارهم بالحكمة حجة مخزية
17:8	For those who promised to drive off the fears and disorders of a sick soul were sick themselves with ridiculous fear.	Jene, die immer versprachen, Furcht und Verwirrung von der kranken Seele zu bannen, krankten nun selber an einer lächerlichen Angst.	Promettevano di cacciare timori e inquietudini dall'anima malata, e cadevano malati per uno spavento ridicolo.	اذ الذين وعدوا بنفي الجزع والبلبال عن النفس الدنفة هؤلاء ادنفهم خوف مضحك
17:9	For even if nothing disturbing frightened them, yet, scared by the passing of wild animals and the hissing of snakes	Auch wenn nichts Schreckliches sie ängstigte, wurden sie durch raschelndes Getier und zischelnde Schlangen aufgescheucht und vergingen vor Furcht. Nicht einmal in die Luft wollten sie blicken, der man doch nirgends entfliehen kann.	Anche se nulla di spaventoso li atterriva, spaventati al passare delle bestiole e ai sibili dei rettili, morivano di tremore, rifiutando persino di guardare l'aria, a cui nessuno può sottrarsi.	فانهم وان لم يصبهم شيء هائل كان مرور الوحوش وفحيح الافاعي يدحرهم فيهلكون من الخوف ويتوقون حتى الهواء الذي لا محيد عنه
17:10	they perished in trembling fear, refusing to look even at the air, though it nowhere could be avoided.	Denn die Schlechtigkeit bezeugt selbst ihr feiges Wesen, wenn sie gestraft wird. Unter dem Druck des Gewissens befürchtet sie immer das Schlimmste.	La malvagità condannata dalla propria testimonianza è qualcosa di vile e oppressa dalla coscienza presume sempre il peggio.	لان الخبث ملازم للجبن فهو يقضي على نفسه بشهادته ولقلق الضمير لا يزال متخيلا الضربات
17:11	For wickedness is a cowardly thing, condemned by its own testimony; distressed by conscience, it has always exaggerated the difficulties.	Furcht ist ja nichts anderes als der Verzicht auf die von der Vernunft angebotene Hilfe.	Il timore infatti non è altro che rinunzia agli aiuti della ragione;	فان الخوف انما هو ترك المدد الذي من العقل
17:12	For fear is nothing but a giving up of the helps that come from reason;	Je weniger man solche Hilfe erwartet, umso schlimmer erscheint es, die Ursache der Qual nicht zu kennen.	quanto meno nell'intimo ci si aspetta da essi, tanto più grave si stima l'ignoranza della causa che produce il tormento.	و انتظار المدد من الداخل اضعف ولذلك تحسب مجلبة العذاب المجهولة اشد
17:13	and hope, defeated by this inward weakness, prefers ignorance of what causes the torment.	In Wahrheit hatte jene Nacht keine Gewalt; aus den Tiefen der machtlosen Totenwelt war sie heraufgestiegen. Sie aber, die wie sonst schlafen wollten,	Ma essi durante tale notte davvero impotente, uscita dai recessi impenetrabili degli inferi senza potere, intorpiditi da un medesimo sonno,	فالذين ناموا تلك النومة في ذلك الليل الذي لا يطاق الوارد من اخادير الجحيم الفظيعة
17:14	But throughout the night, which was really powerless and which came upon them from the recesses of powerless Hades, they all slept the same sleep,	wurden bald durch Schreckgespenster aufgescheucht, bald durch Mutlosigkeit gelähmt; denn plötzliche und unerwartete Furcht hatte sie befallen.	ora erano agitati da fantasmi mostruosi, ora paralizzati per l'abbattimento dell'anima; poiché un terrore improvviso e inaspettato si era riversato su di loro.	كانوا تارة تقتحمهم الاخيلة وتارة تنحل قواهم من انخلاع قلوبهم لما غشيهم من مفاجاة الخوف الغير المتوقع
17:15	and now were driven by monstrous specters, and now were paralyzed by their souls' surrender; for sudden and unexpected fear overwhelmed them.	So wurde jeder dort, wo er zu Boden sank, ein Gefangener, der in einen Kerker ohne Eisenfesseln eingeschlossen war.	Così chiunque, cadendo là dove si trovava, era custodito chiuso in un carcere senza serrami,	ثم حيثما سقط احد بقى محبوسا في سجن لا حديد فيه
17:16	And whoever was there fell down, and thus was kept shut up in a prison not made of iron;	Ob Bauer oder Hirt oder ein Taglöhner, der einsam arbeitete, alle wurden überrascht und mussten sich dem unentrinnbaren Zwang fügen, alle wurden durch die gleiche Kette der Finsternis gefesselt.	fosse un agricoltore o un pastore o un operaio impegnato in lavori in luoghi solitari, sorpreso cadeva sotto la necessità ineluttabile, perché tutti eran legati dalla stessa catena di tenebre.	فان كان فلاحا او راعيا او صاحب عمل من اعمال الصحراء اخذ بغتة فوقع في قسر لا انفكاك عنه
17:17	for whether they were farmers or shepherds or workers who toiled in the wilderness, they were seized, and endured the inescapable fate; for with one chain of darkness they all were bound.	Das Pfeifen des Windes, der wohlklingende Gesang der Vögel auf den Zweigen der Bäume, das Rauschen ungestüm strömender Wasser, das wilde Donnern stürzender Felsen,	Il sibilare del vento, il canto melodioso di uccelli tra folti rami, il mormorio di impetuosa acqua corrente, il cupo fragore di rocce cadenti,	اذ جميعهم كانوا مقيدين بسلسلة واحدة من الظلام فدوي الريح واغاريد الطيور على الاغصان الملتفة وصوت المياه المندفعة بقوة
17:18	Whether there came a whistling wind, or a melodious sound of birds in wide-spreading branches, or the rhythm of violently rushing water,	das Laufen hüpfender Tiere, die man nicht sehen konnte, das laute Gebrüll wilder Raubtiere, das aus den Schluchten der Berge zurückgeworfene Echo: alles und jedes jagte ihnen lähmende Furcht ein.	la corsa invisibile di animali imbizzarriti, le urla di crudelissime belve ruggenti, l'eco ripercossa delle cavità dei monti, tutto li paralizzava e li riempiva di terrore.	و قعقعة الحجارة المتدحرجة وركض الحيوانات الذي لا يرى وزئير الوحوش الضارية والصدى المتردد في بطون الجبال كل ذلك كان يذيبهم من الخوف
17:19	or the harsh crash of rocks hurled down, or the unseen running of leaping animals, or the sound of the most savage roaring beasts, or an echo thrown back from a hollow of the mountains, it paralyzed them with terror.	Die ganze Welt stand in strahlendem Licht und alle gingen ungehindert ihrer Arbeit nach.	Tutto il mondo era illuminato di luce splendente ed ognuno era dedito ai suoi lavori senza impedimento.	و بينما كان سائر العالم يضيئه نور ساطع ويتعاطى اعماله بغير مانع
17:20	For the whole world was illumined with brilliant light, and went about its work unhindered,	Nur über jene breitete sich drückende Nacht aus, Bild der Finsternis, die sie dereinst aufnehmen sollte. Doch mehr als unter der Finsternis litten sie unter ihrer eigenen Angst.	Soltanto su di essi si stendeva una notte profonda, immagine della tenebra che li avrebbe avvolti; ma erano a se stessi più gravosi della tenebra.	كان اولئك منفردين في ظل ليل مدلهم مشاكل لما سيغشاهم من الظلمة لكنهم كانوا على انفسهم اثقل من الظلمة
17:21	while over those people alone heavy night was spread, an image of the darkness that was destined to receive them; but still heavier than darkness were they to themselves.
