12:2	But some of the governors in various places, Timothy and Apollonius son of Gennaeus, as well as Hieronymus and Demophon, and in addition to these Nicanor the governor of Cyprus, would not let them live quietly and in peace.	Die Befehlshaber in jener Gegend aber, Timotheus, Apollonius, der Sohn des Gennäus, ferner Hieronymus, Demophon und auch Nikanor, der Statthalter von Zypern, ließen die Juden nicht in Ruhe und Frieden leben. 12:3	And the people of Joppa did so ungodly a deed as this: they invited the Jews who lived among them to embark, with their wives and children, on boats that they had provided, as though there were no ill will to the Jews;	Die Einwohner von Jafo begingen folgendes entsetzliche Verbrechen: Sie luden die Juden, die unter ihnen wohnten, ein, mit ihren Frauen und Kindern in Schiffe, die sie zur Verfügung stellten, einzusteigen. 12:4	and this was done by public vote of the city. When they accepted, because they wished to live peaceably and suspected nothing, the people of Joppa took them out to sea and drowned them, at least two hundred.	sondern aufgrund eines öffentlichen Beschlusses der Stadt handelten. 12:6	and, calling upon God, the righteous judge, attacked the murderers of his kindred. 12:7	Then, because the city's gates were closed, he withdrew, intending to come again and root out the whole community of Joppa.	Die Stadt selbst hatte ihre Tore verrammelt. 12:9	he attacked the Jamnites by night and set fire to the harbor and the fleet, so that the glow of the light was seen in Jerusalem, thirty miles distant.	überfiel er auch die Leute von Jamnia bei Nacht und steckte den Hafen samt der Flotte in Brand. Der Feuerschein war zweihundertvierzig Stadien weit bis nach Jerusalem zu sehen.	piombando di notte sui cittadini di Iamnia, incendiò il porto con la flotta, così che si vedeva il bagliore delle fiamme fino a Gerusalemme, che è distante duecentoquaranta stadi. 12:10	When they had gone more than a mile from there, on their march against Timothy, at least five thousand Arabs with five hundred cavalry attacked them.	Von dort zogen sie weiter gegen Timotheus. 12:11	After a hard fight, Judas and his companions, with God's help, were victorious. The defeated nomads begged Judas to grant them pledges of friendship, promising to give him livestock and to help his people in all other ways.	Nach hitzigem Kampf gewannen die Männer des Judas die Oberhand; denn Gott half ihnen. Die bedrängten Nomaden baten Judas um Frieden, versprachen, ihm und seinen Leuten Vieh zu liefern und ihnen auch sonst gute Dienste zu erweisen. 12:12	Judas, realizing that they might indeed be useful in many ways, agreed to make peace with them; and after receiving his pledges they went back to their tents.	Da Judas der Ansicht war, ihre Hilfe könne ihnen tatsächlich bei vielen Gelegenheiten von Nutzen sein, war er damit einverstanden, mit ihnen Frieden zu schließen. Die Araber verpflichteten sich durch Handschlag und zogen sich zu ihren Zelten zurück. 12:13	He also attacked a certain town that was strongly fortified with earthworks and walls, and inhabited by all sorts of Gentiles. Its name was Caspin.	Judas griff auch eine Stadt namens Kaspin an; sie war ringsum mit Wällen und Mauern befestigt. Ihre Bevölkerung setzte sich aus Menschen verschiedenster Völker zusammen.	Attaccò anche una città difesa da contrafforti, circondata da mura e abitata da gente d'ogni stirpe, chiamata Casfin. 12:14	Those who were within, relying on the strength of the walls and on their supply of provisions, behaved most insolently toward Judas and his men, railing at them and even blaspheming and saying unholy things.	Weil sie sich auf ihre hohen Mauern und auf ihre Vorräte verließen, wurden sie immer unverschämter gegen die Leute des Judas, beschimpften sie, lästerten Gott und schrien unflätige Worte. 12:15	But Judas and his men, calling upon the great Sovereign of the world, who without battering rams or engines of war overthrew Jericho in the days of Joshua, rushed furiously upon the walls.	Die Männer des Judas riefen den großen Herrn der Welt an, der Jericho zur Zeit Josuas ohne Rammböcke und Belagerungsmaschinen zu Boden geschmettert hatte. 12:16	They took the town by the will of God, and slaughtered untold numbers, so that the adjoining lake, a quarter of a mile wide, appeared to be running over with blood.	und weil Gott es so wollte, konnten sie die Stadt einnehmen. Sie richteten in ihr ein unbeschreibliches Blutbad an, sodass ein zwei Stadien breiter See, der neben der Stadt lag, von dem Blut, das in ihn geflossen war, angefüllt zu sein schien. 12:17	When they had gone ninety-five miles from there, they came to Charax, to the Jews who are called Toubiani.	Dann marschierten sie siebenhundertfünfzig Stadien weiter, bis sie zum Charax kamen, wo die sogenannten Tubianer-Juden wohnten. 12:18	They did not find Timothy in that region, for he had by then left there without accomplishing anything, though in one place he had left a very strong garrison.	Timotheus trafen sie dort nicht an; denn er war, ohne etwas unternommen zu haben, von dort abgezogen. 12:19	Dositheus and Sosipater, who were captains under Maccabeus, marched out and destroyed those whom Timothy had left in the stronghold, more than ten thousand men.	Dositheus und Sosipater, zwei Offiziere aus dem Stab des Makkabäers, rückten aus und töteten die über zehntausend Mann starke Besatzung, die Timotheus in der Festung zurückgelassen hatte. 12:20	But Maccabeus arranged his army in divisions, set men in command of the divisions, and hurried after Timothy, who had with him one hundred twenty thousand infantry and two thousand five hundred cavalry.	Dann teilte der Makkabäer sein Heer in mehrere Gruppen auf, übertrug jeweils einem seiner Offiziere den Befehl über eine Gruppe und zog in Eilmärschen gegen Timotheus, der über hundertzwanzigtausend Mann an Fußtruppen und zweitausendfünfhundert Reiter verfügte.	Intanto il Maccabeo ordinò il suo esercito dividendolo in reparti, nominò questi al comando dei reparti e mosse contro Timòteo, il quale aveva con sé centoventimila fanti e duemilacinquecento cavalieri. 12:21	When Timothy learned of the approach of Judas, he sent off the women and the children and also the baggage to a place called Carnaim; for that place was hard to besiege and difficult of access because of the narrowness of all the approaches.	Als Timotheus vom Anmarsch des Judas erfuhr, schickte er Frauen, Kinder und den übrigen Tross in eine Stadt namens Karnajim voraus. Diesen Ort konnte man kaum belagern, da er wegen zahlreicher Engpässe fast unzugänglich war. 12:22	But when Judas's first division appeared, terror and fear came over the enemy at the manifestation to them of him who sees all things. In their flight they rushed headlong in every direction, so that often they were injured by their own men and pierced by the points of their own swords.	Kaum zeigte sich die erste Abteilung des Judas, da gerieten die Feinde in Furcht und Schrecken, denn der, der alles überschaut, ließ eine Erscheinung sichtbar werden. Sie rannten in wilder Flucht davon, jeder in eine andere Richtung. Dabei fügten sie vielfach einander selbst Schaden zu, ja, sie durchbohrten sich gegenseitig mit den Spitzen ihrer Schwerter. 12:23	Judas pressed the pursuit with the utmost vigor, putting the sinners to the sword, and destroyed as many as thirty thousand.	Doch Judas setzte ihnen stürmisch nach und erschlug von den Verruchten gegen dreißigtausend Mann. 12:24	Timothy himself fell into the hands of Dositheus and Sosipater and their men. With great guile he begged them to let him go in safety, because he held the parents of most of them, and the brothers of some, to whom no consideration would be shown.	Timotheus selbst fiel den Leuten des Dositheus und des Sosipater in die Hände. Er flehte mit schönen, doch falschen Worten, ihn unbehelligt freizulassen; die Eltern und Brüder sehr vieler Juden seien in der Gewalt seiner Leute und es könne sein, dass man auf sie keine Rücksicht nehme.	Lo stesso Timòteo, caduto in mano agli uomini di Dosìteo e Sosìpatro, supplicava con molta astuzia di essere lasciato sano e salvo, perché tratteneva come ostaggi i genitori di molti di loro e di alcuni i fratelli ai quali sarebbe capitato di essere trattati senza riguardo. 12:25	And when with many words he had confirmed his solemn promise to restore them unharmed, they let him go, for the sake of saving their kindred.	Mit vielen Worten brachte er sie dazu, seinen Versprechungen, er werde diese Menschen unversehrt zurückgeben, zu glauben. Um die Brüder zu retten, ließen sie ihn laufen. 12:38	Then Judas assembled his army and went to the city of Adullam. As the seventh day was coming on, they purified themselves according to the custom, and kept the sabbath there. 12:39	On the next day, as had now become necessary, Judas and his men went to take up the bodies of the fallen and to bring them back to lie with their kindred in the sepulchres of their ancestors. 12:40	Then under the tunic of each one of the dead they found sacred tokens of the idols of Jamnia, which the law forbids the Jews to wear. And it became clear to all that this was the reason these men had fallen. 12:41	So they all blessed the ways of the Lord, the righteous judge, who reveals the things that are hidden;	und sie priesen nun alle das Wirken des Herrn, des gerechten Richters, der das Verborgene ans Licht bringt. 12:42	and they turned to supplication, praying that the sin that had been committed might be wholly blotted out. The noble Judas exhorted the people to keep themselves free from sin, for they had seen with their own eyes what had happened as the result of the sin of those who had fallen. 12:43	He also took up a collection, man by man, to the amount of two thousand drachmas of silver, and sent it to Jerusalem to provide for a sin offering. In doing this he acted very well and honorably, taking account of the resurrection. Damit handelte er sehr schön und edel; denn er dachte an die Auferstehung. 12:44	For if he were not expecting that those who had fallen would rise again, it would have been superfluous and foolish to pray for the dead. 12:45	But if he was looking to the splendid reward that is laid up for those who fall asleep in godliness, it was a holy and pious thought.
